Nov 26, 2018: Question of the Day: No QOTD today!
Welcome back ladies and gentlemen! I hope everyone had a lovely relaxing Thanksgiving break and that you found many things to be grateful for. :) If you weren't in class today, here's what you missed:
During the first half of today's class, we engaged in a Unit 3 Wrap-up in which we discussed answers to the course's essential questions in the context of Unit 3.
After half-time stretch, we completed a World War I Pre-Test. This test was not for points; we completed it largely to see how much we remembered about World War I from last year's World History class. Please click on the following link to see the Answer Key.
Homework:
No homework!
Reminder:
Don't forget that notebook collection will take place in class next week! Make sure that you find time this week to consult the notebook rubric (located on the back page of your course syllabus) and make sure that your notebook is in order before next week. Please remember to bring your notebook to class every day next week!
Have a lovely evening everyone! :)
Best, Ms Hynes
Nov 27, 2018: Question of the Day: What specific factors contributed to the outbreak of WWI? (Please be specific! Do not just cite M.A.I.N.)
Good afternoon folks! If you weren't in class today, here's what you missed:
Next, we viewed Episode 1 of "The Great War" with Indy Neidell and completed the accompanying WORKSHEET. Since we did not have time today to review the answers to this worksheet, we will do so during the first half of tomorrow's class.
Additionally, the instruction sheet and rubric for the "World War I Battle Project" was handed out in class today. In the next couple of days, we will take a look at the military theaters and campaigns of WWI so that you and your group members can decide which battle you might want to focus on for your project. Please note, no two groups should focus on the same battle for their project.
Homework:
Respond to the QOTD (due Thursday)

Nov 28, 2018: Question of the Day: What specific factors contributed to the outbreak of WWI? (Please be specific! Do not just cite M.A.I.N.)
Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen! If you weren't in class today, here's what you missed:
We began today's class by reviewing the worksheet from yesterday's video, and elaborating on some of the answers to clarify the origins and outbreak of World War I.
After half-time stretch, we began to examine the "Theaters of World War I". We took a look at Part 1 today to see if any particular military campaign looked interesting enough to be the focus of our battle projects. We will examine Part 2 of this lesson during the second half of tomorrow's class. Please keep in mind that Monday's class is reserved for battle project research, so make sure you've chosen both your group and your battle before then!
Homework:
Respond to the QOTD (due tomorrow)

We began today's class with a QOTD check and discussion.
Next, we examined Part 2 of "Theaters of WWI" (I will post this presentation tomorrow since it's on my work computer).

Homework:
Get your notebook updated and in order before next week and make sure you bring it to class every day with you next week.
Reminder:
Make sure you've chosen a project group and a battle to focus on as soon as possible. Monday's class will be dedicated to research for the project. Therefore it would be wise to have chosen a focus for the project already so that you can use that class time as productively as possible.
Have a good night everyone! :)

Dec 11/12, 2018: Question of the Day: No QOTD today!
Welcome back everyone! If you weren't in class today or yesterday, here's what you missed:
In yesterday's class, we viewed presentations for the battle project.
Prepare for Monday's and Tuesday's simulations and study for finals.
Reminders:
Please remember to study both simulation roles thoroughly before Monday and Tuesday of next week (but don't worry, you can have your role sheets and information sheets in front of you during the simulation)
Do not lose your role sheets!
Make every possible effort to be present for BOTH Monday's and Tuesday's class. It will be extremely difficult for you to re-take this portion of the final if you are absent, and any accommodations for you will require medical documentation or a letter from your parents attesting to a family emergency.
You are only required to participate actively in one of those simulations. For the other, you will be required to observe, comment, and participate in a debriefing discussion.
Have a lovely evening everyone! :)
Best, Ms Hynes

Dec 17, 2018: Question of the Day: No QOTD today.
Welcome back folks! I hope that you all had a relaxing weekend. I'm pleased to say everyone was in class today! :)
Allow me to congratulate you all on a successful day 1 of history finals; the AERA simulation went very well today. Students committed to their roles admirably and debriefing discussions were rich and thoughtful. Those students who did not actively participate in today's simulation should be well prepared to do so tomorrow when we simulate jury deliberations for the Boston Massacre.
Homework:
Prep for your simulation on Tuesday and study for finals.
Reminder:
Please be both present and on time for tomorrow's class - we need every minute we've got.
Please begin looking through Infinite Campus to see which categories might benefit from some of those extra credit points you've accumulated this past semester. Remember, you may not add them to Finals, Tests, or Essay categories.
