Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen! If you weren't in class today, here's what you missed:
Today, we took a deeper look at life in "Hoover's America" during the Great Depression. The homework for tonight is listed on the last two slides of today's Powerpoint (click on the link to download it).
Homework:
Listen to FDR's "Fireside Chat #1 - More Important Than Gold". You can read along with the FULL TEXT of this speech since the sound quality isn't perfect and his old-school accent is a bit thick. :) Once you've listened to the speech, answer the following question and be prepared to discuss it at the beginning of tomorrow's class: "How would this broadcast make you feel if you were one of the people whose money was lost in a bank failure? How do you think Americans responded to this message from President Roosevelt?"

We began Monday's class with a quick HOMEWORK CHECK and discussion of Friday's QOTD.
Next, we watched an excerpt from the documentary: "The Roosevelts: An Intimate History - Episode 5 ("The Rising Road")" available on Netflix. If you were absent for this class and do not have access to Netflix, please let me know ASAP so that I can make arrangements for you to watch it after school sometime this week. This documentary was accompanied by a WORKSHEET, the answers to which we reviewed together after the film.

Today, we finished our examination of the lesson "Political Realignment & the New Deal Programs". Please click on the link posted under yesterday's date to download the Powerpoint.
Next, we handed out the "Theory of American History Essay" outline, rubric, and sample arguments. Please read this document carefully, take note of each individual due date, and start thinking about potential topics and research questions you'd like to pursue. Start earlier rather than later, giving yourself lots of time to develop a solid theory, or perhaps change your mind if your initial research questions lead you to a dead end.
