Welcome back ladies and gentlemen! If you weren't in class today, here's what you missed:
Today, we began our class by handing out a "Field Trip Information Package" to all students. Please read this very carefully before the two field trip days. We also handed out simulation roles to all students (please come and see me as soon as possible to pick up your role description).
We also kicked off Unit 10: The 70s & 80s - The Conservative Tide today. As such, we handed out the Unit 10 Student Guide and spent some time examining "The Nixon Administration" in today's lecture.
Homework:
Put the finishing touches on the final draft of your ToAH essay - it's due today!! Don't forget to submit a copy to Turnitin, and please do so as early as possible. The website can take a while at times.

Today, we wrapped up the last of "The Nixon Administration" (click on the link posted under yesterday's date to download the Powerpoint) before moving on to "The Watergate Scandal". We watched CNN's "The Seventies: The United States vs Richard Nixon". This documentary is available on Netflix and was accompanied by a WORKSHEET, the answers to which we will review during tomorrow's class.

Next, we began to examine "Economics in the 1970s", a lesson which we will complete during Monday's class.

Tomorrow is the first day of the field trip to the Reagan Library, so make sure that you arrive at school ON TIME and promptly report to the high school common area (outside Ms. Thompson's classroom) if tomorrow is your day to go on the trip.
If you will remain on campus tomorrow, please check the lists posted on Ms Everett's door and Ms Schlee's door (which Mr. Landgreen will be supervising) to see which classroom you should report to.
Please keep in mind the worksheet for the documentary, "13th" (available on Netflix) that you will be watching in Periods 5 and 6 will be collected and graded for history class at the end of Period 6.

Good afternoon folks! If you weren't in class today, here's what you missed:
Today was our demo classwith Mr. Hamaguchi, and he introduced us to the Reagan administration in the 1980s, beginning with lecture entitled "The Conservative Resurgence". He also provided a set of "Guided Notes" to make that lecture go more quickly.
He concluded with a viewing of CNNs "The Eighties: Episode 3 - Reagan Revolution". The four video comprehension questions are listed at the end of the guided notes. This video is available on Netflix and you only need to watch it from the 28:00 mark to the end of the episode.

Today, we completed the examination of Civil Rights in the 1970s - Part 2 which we began during Tuesday's class. Today, we watched "Chicano: Fighting for Political Power" and then discussed answers to the questions on the 2nd last slide of the Powerpoint (see Tuesday's lesson):
1) What challenges were faced by Latinos living in the Southwest United States? 2) Describe the actions of La Raza Unida in pursuit of Latino-American equality. 3) Describe the action taken by the students at the Crystal City High School and the results. 4) What led to the ideological split between the members of La Raza Unida? 5) What connections can you make between the South Texas Chicano movement and other civil rights events and trends we’ve studied?
