Hey there folks! If you weren't in class today, here's what you missed:
Today, we completed yesterday's lecture on "Urban Life and the Dawn of Mass Culture" (please see yesterday's posting to download the Powerpoint).
Next, students received a short reading assignment with accompanying comprehension and reflection questions: "But Were They Gay? The Mystery of Same-Sex Love in the 19th Century." Please read this article, respond to the questions, and be prepared to discuss them in class on Friday.
Finally, students received a "Guide to Developing a Good Research Question and Thesis". Please read this document CAREFULLY if you weren't here today, and feel free to ask any questions about it. It will be helpful to you when you begin your research process for the Biographical Essay.

Finally, we spent the last few minutes of class brainstorming research questions for our biographical essays. If you were away today, start doing this! Show your initial research questions to me and ask for feedback!

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen! If you weren't in class today, here's what you missed:
Today, we introduced the Spanish American War by watching an excerpt from "The Roosevelt's: An Intimate History", Episode 1 - "Get Action". (this video is available on Netflix). This video was accompanied by a WORKSHEET, the answer to which we reviewed together after the video.
At the end of class, a reading packet entitled "The Spanish American War" was handed out. This packet should be read and questions 1 - 4 should be completed by Tuesday of next week.

Today, we examined the eastern theater of turn-of-the-century American imperialism with the lesson: "Imperialism East" (please click on the link to download the Powerpoint). Period 1 students ONLY, please preview the rest of this lesson before Tuesday's class since we will have to move through it pretty quickly in our next class if we're going to be ready for the test next Thursday!
